Amber and Mike: A July bride and Groom with a View

It is the final week before the wedding of Amber and Mike’! With only five more days to go, everyone here at The Italian Wedding planner, are gearing up for their big day!

The venue has been set, the flowers ordered, the menu chosen; all details are in place to come together for a very special wedding in Italy for our  guest bloggers 'A July Bride' and 'Groom with a View'.

Over the past months Amber and Mike have very kindly been sharing their thoughts and excitement for their special day. As I write this they are currently driving from London to Treviso in a mini bus full of family and friends on their road trip-the final destination being their wedding day.  Tonight they will arrive in Treviso after this long journey which they’ve taken towards their destination wedding in Italy. The excitement grows exponentially in the days before any wedding, but this wedding will take place in Treviso, hometown to The Italian Wedding Planner.

We are looking forward to walking with them through the pretty little streets of Treviso and reminding them of her beauty and charm that they first engaged a year ago last April on their first visit.   We are honored that they have chosen Italy as the location for their wedding, especial as we know this was a big step for a London girl to decide on hosting her wedding abroad.  I am incredibly proud to be the translator at their wedding next Saturday and have the honor or working with the mayor to celebrate their marriage.

We cannot wait to see Amber in her wedding dress and not forgetting Mike, how smart he and all the gentlemen will be in their beautiful suits.  Amber is sure to forget the hours of shopping for Mike and the boys suits, when they are all there on the day looking so very handsome.

We shall keep you all posted on this very special wedding of two  very special friends.

A Groom With A View... 11 weeks to go!

Mike, our groom with a view with his beautiful bride to be.
As the days and weeks tick by bringing us rapidly closer to our main event, it appears that weddings are all around us. While the analysts and commentators devoured every royal detail of a very royal wedding, Amber and I found ourselves in the beautiful village of Sneem in Southern Ireland, attending the last family wedding before our own.

And so our plans are being finalised amidst a backdrop of wedding fever. I have enjoyed watching Amber get excited by the events of the last few weeks, she loves everything about it from the fashion to the fairy-tale and the regal tradition to the romantic love stories.  Our coffee table is burdened more than usual with Hello! and OK magazines, Sunday supplements, bridal pull-outs… There is certainly no shortage of inspiration to spur her on as she immerses herself in wedding research. Her attention to detail is second to none and I love the pride and sense of perfection she displays as she realises a real desire to make our day everything that it deserves to be.

Whilst Amber has given her wedding day a lifetime of thought, I have allowed myself just the 14 months since popping the question to prepare. The bitter reality is that young boys do not devote much thought to their wedding day (in the fear that it may get in the way of climbing trees, kicking footballs against brick walls, or falling out of trees). So here I am, less than 3 months to go, with an overriding feeling of being about 30 years late to the wedding planning party. With the logistical stuff taken care of, I find myself stepping things up a gear in an attempt to be all I can be on our wedding day. There is a realisation that all eyes will be on us, we will never have been photographed so much, and from so many angles as we will be that day. So, with a nervous excitement, I embrace my pre-wedding regime in an attempt to do justice to my beautiful bride. Note to self: Nails clean, shoes polished, stomach in, chest out, stand tall, relax, smile…..

Both the weddings in Westminster and Sneem received universal acclaim, the bar has indeed been set very high. But, with Amber thriving on the challenge, and with more than a little help from our friends, I’m convinced our happy day will surpass all expectations. We may not be televised live across the globe but, in our minds and in our memories, it will be Treviso and not Westminster that hosts the wedding of the century.

Wedding Panic by A July Bride

WEDDING PANIC

As I start to write this, we have 2 months 23 days 14hours 36 minutes and 21 seconds to go until our big day!
Not that I’m counting or panicking of course……
Not that I’m thinking of the zillion things that in my head I need to do to make sure it is the loveliest day ever.
The day that I’ve been dreaming of since I was a little girl!

Mike and I decided early on that our wedding would be a small affair in Italy with close friends and family and that we’d have a big party on our return home as Mr and Mrs White.
And as soon as our date was set, I scoured far and wide to find the perfect dress which I have now bought and set a hefty deposit down for.
However, to date we have still to have confirmed the reception venue in Italy and to arrange a reception venue in the UK (as our English venue unexpectedly closed down), flowers are in hand but I am still feeling worried that the florist will be able to translate what I have in my mind in to a beautiful bouquet, decorations and accessories are still to be sorted, decision on  favours, my friend is hopefully going to come and do my hair and make-up but I am still waiting for her to confirm , transport to and from the wedding ceremony for my guests....and so the list goes on.
Not to mention all those wonderful resolutions I was going to follow; the detox, the healthy diet, the regular facials, manicures and hair treatments.
Mike on the other hand is constantly reminding me of all the things we have achieved so far; the travel arrangements to and from Italy, the accommodation, the wedding singer (yes, every good wedding should have one), the guest list and most importantly the paperwork needed for the wedding to take place.
And this reminds me why and how much I love this man!

Forget for a moment all the lists and time deadlines (Kelly assures me that Italy is much more relaxed about these things) and remember the true meaning of what we are going to do.
Because when I walk down that aisle (I’m assuming Italian town halls have aisles), the only person I am going to see is Mike and those two little words ‘I do’ will change my life forever in the loveliest way possible.

The Groom With A View

Mike our July groom's blog on the run up to his wedding:

When I reflect on it now, it feels like I hit the jackpot. Not only was Amber the most beautiful woman in the world, she seemed to see something that she liked in me too. On a first date, sharing fish n’ chips, mushy peas, and a bottle of wine by the river, and to find hidden depths to interest, excite, and intrigue me…. I knew this girl would change my life forever.

I finally plucked up the courage to propose whilst on a weekend away in Brighton; the ring had been burning a hole in my pocket for hours while I nervously searched for the right moment to assume the bended knee position. I was confident the Tiffany Novo ring would be a success (Amber is nothing short of magnificent at hint dropping). The knot in my stomach came about through the magnitude of the question I was about to ask. In my previous 34 years I had never before felt the need to do this. I had always stood by the tried and tested male values of ‘commitment avoidance’, ‘living a little’ and ‘enjoying the independence’; but this time it felt different, it felt right.

I have always considered myself to be a confident person but as I looked up into her eyes, having just stammered my way through the longest question ever, I felt so completely vulnerable. My soul lay bare before her, ready and prepared to be trampled on. The feeling of assumed rejection went on for an eternity before…. One word…. The correct word… And the jackpot had once again been hit.

We have just three months to the big day. The previous 14 since Brighton having been filled with planning, mostly on the frantic side of meticulous, and there is still more to do. It appears I had naively underestimated the time spent on perfecting the finishes – stories to be told another time.

So we now look forward to Treviso with excited anticipation, a trip that will change our lives and, hopefully, live forever in our minds and in our hearts. Is it greedy of me to hope to hit the jackpot for a third time?

Mike

WEDDING FLOWERS INSPIRATION BY AMBER

Amber our July bride's blog on the run up to her wedding:

The Bridal Bouquet
With so many beautiful flowers to choose from, where do I start?
Well, after having seen 'Black Swan', I have become ever so slightly obsessed with everything symbolic of the ballet. So it seems apt that I choose flowers inspired by my most current love and obsession, the ballet.

When I think of the ballet, I picture a beautiful ballerina poised in front of a Venetian mirror wearing the iconic ballet slippers.
So how do I translate this image of mine into flowers…?

I'm dreaming of bridal bouquets hand tied with silk ribbons, lace or tulle.
     petalena.wordpress.com
I'm thinking flowers bejeweled by a scattering of crystals and pearls or nestling with the softest ivory feathers.

I'm imagining dozens of roses in bloom.
I'm visualizing displays of pastel and nude tones with petals of the most delicate oyster pinks, champagne, pale apricot and lilacs.

I hope my florist will realize my grand designs and I can look forward to a floral memory I will be able to treasure always and forever.                                                                                                       Amber
