Vintage wedding in Siena

Lorna and Steve chose the fabulous setting of Siena for their wedding day. This wedding was filled with countless gorgeous details, from the very personal ceremony in the historic town hall of Siena, to the vintage  glass vases filled with beautiful floral arrangements in the marquee, the whole day was magical. It was a truly fabulous wedding that will be remembered for years to come.

Red white and blue Fiat 500's transported the groom and the main wedding party to the town hall of Siena.

Every detail was in place and the team waited for the arrival of the wedding party.

A very special invitation was extended to Penny, The Italian Wedding Planner's dog. Who was delighted to receive so much attention from the children at the wedding!

Final checks to make sure everything was in place before the guests were seated for dinner.

A curtain of fresh flowers framed the entrance to the marquee.

Vintage glass vases filled with beautiful flowers decorated the table filled with candle light.

Top cities, towns and villages in Tuscany part 1

Getting married in Tuscany

Tuscany is one of the most popular destinations for a wedding in Italy. With stunning landscape, beautiful architecture, mouthwatering delicacies and great weather the hard part is where do you chose for your wedding in Tuscany?
For my first instalment of favourite location for weddings in Tuscany we have...
Siena
When passing through one the historic doors of the city, you seem to be immersed in another time. Every stone has hammered a piece of history within itself. Arriving at the Campo Square, we can only relive the Sienese Republic and all the fights they endured to defend independence.

Built over an area that was once an open field, hence its name ‘campo’, Piazza del Campo is one of the world’s finest examples of secular architecture and is the precise meeting point of the three hills on which Siena is built. The earliest documented mention of the area dates back to 1169, today Palazzo Comunale (or Palazzo Pubblico) is the city of Sienas town hall where weddings are celebrated.

After the wedding the bride and  groom step out in to il Campo, the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, is at the heart of  Siena and is famous for hosting the Palio horse race twice a year.

Siena is perfect for wedding with around 100 guests as there are limited seating inside the town hall and some of your guests would have to stand, but there is something so magical about Siena that it is worth organising the transport to bring your guests to this great city and then back to the villa where your reception is being hosted.

Siena is also perfect for small intimate weddings, bursting with many restaurants where you can stroll to via the narrow streets to the chorus of well wishers.

This is one of my favourite images of newlyweds walking round il Campo after their Civil wedding in Siena.

Veil or no veil

Should you wear a veil or not? There is no answer other than it is  completely up to you! The wearing of a veil is a long-standing Italian tradition, it dates back to ancient Romans. The veil is supposed to protect the bride from evil spirits, but you don’t have to follow this tradition if you don’t want to. Some brides just go with a really cool headpiece-check out our latest post for some inspiration on headpieces here:

Below is our guide to veil lengths, whatever length you choose, you can wear the veil back and away from your face or you can go for the most popular blusher-type veil. This conceals your face as you walk down the aisle and your groom will lift it when it comes to the time for the kiss. But remember: the color of the veil and its embellishments should match your wedding dress. So no champagne-colored veil with your ivory gown, please!

The birdcage veil has become the go-to for hip brides, so much so that it is becoming uber trendy.. Katherine Heigl looked beautiful in this birdcage veil that accentuated her couture Oscar de la Renta wedding gown.

Shoulder length veil

If you are looking for something truly unique, the shoulder length veil is a serious contender.  Evoking 1950's era glamour and grace it is the perfect veil for a tea-length dress.

Elbow length veil

Longer veils have a traditional feel, and add elegance to any gown. The Elbow length veil is just on the border of traditional and flirty, classic and cute.

Fingertip length veil
I just adore the way the light weaves its magic with this beautiful brides veil in Siena
The fingertip veil is the queen of tradition and versatility. It compliments any dress, and is a classic and beautiful staple for a bride.  It can fall anywhere between the wrists and a few inches below the fingertips. A fingertip length blusher creates a classic, traditional, and elegant veiled bride.

Knee length veil

The knee length is one I don't see very often, I think you have to be tall enough with the right style of dress to be able to pull it off.

Ballet or Waltz veil

This is a floor length veil that just barely brushes the floor. The style is very simple yet elegant, and looks stunning.

Chapel veil

This veil lends a very formal and classic bridal look. The chapel veil creates a very sweet and feminine look.

Cathedral veil
I adore this veil, this beautiful Australian bride wanted to bring something Spanish in to her wedding as her mother is Spanish and getting married in Italy was the perfect element for her Italian father!

This veil is the queen of veils! I think this style works well with almost all body types and personal styles, given that all the elements are well balanced. A full-figured bride could seem elongated with this extended veil. A more petite bride could also look proportionally beautiful and not overwhelmed by the length of the veil, as long as she has the right gown with the right silhouette.

Basically the Cathedral veil is a show stopper!

Wedding in Siena

Janine and Ashley were married in a beautiful ceremony in Siena followed by a lavish reception in a Tuscan castle...

Janine and Ashley were married on a beautiful summer’s day in my favorite Tuscan city of Siena.

Watched by 120 of their closest friends and family they exchanged their vows. The wedding ceremony was translated to them by Kelly Hayes from The Italian Wedding Planner, who after months of working closely with Janine and Ashley felt honored to be asked to perform this service inside the wedding hall of Palazzo Pubblico.
